| Vijay Rupani is from Rajkot, the heart of Saurashtra, which has a large population of Patel and Dalits. He was born on August 2, 1956 in Rangoon, Burma to Mayaben and Ramniklal Rupani to a Jain Bania family. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from Saurashtra University. Rupani, a first-time MP, the BJP has maintained its tradition of calling a non-Patel leader after the untimely departure of a Patel leader. |

| Vijay R Rupani earned a BA from Dharmendrasinhji Arts College and a law degree from Saurashtra University in Rajkot. He is considered a brilliant leader who is born with leadership skills. He began his political career by joining RSS in 1971. During his studies, he was a very active member of the ABVP. He protested strongly during the dark days of the emergency and was even imprisoned. From 1978 to 1981, he served as RSS pracharak. He made giant strides after being elected mayor of Rajkot in 1996. In 2006, he was appointed president of Gujarat Tourism. He has become very popular among all because of his gentle nature. He has served as general secretary of the BJP unit in Gujarat four times. He was sent to Rajya Sabha in 2006 and served until 2012. |
