| Rajiv Gandhi was born on August 20, 1944, in the country's prominent political dynasty, the Nehru-Gandhi family. His mother, Indira Gandhi was the first and only woman prime minister of India. Feroze Gandhi, a key member of the National Indian Congress and editor of The National Herald, was his father. Rajiv Gandhi first attended Welham Boys' School and then went to the Doon School elite in Dehradun. Later, he went to the UK to study at Cambridge University.
