Ashwini Ponnappa Biography & Biodata | ||
| Ashwini Ponnappa was born on 18-09-1989 in Bangalore in the state of Karnataka, India. She is an Indian badminton player. Ashini Ponnappa graduated from St. Francis Xavier Girls' High School in Bangalore. During her school days, she started playing badminton and began her junior career at an early age. She first came to the fore after winning the Indian junior championships in 2001. She was only 12 years old. She then won the women's doubles sub-junior title in 2004. |

| Ashwini won the coveted gold medal at the South Asian Games in 2006. She became pro in 2007 and started representing India at the highest level. She formed a great partnership with veteran badminton player Jwala Gutta. The year 2010 was probably the best year of her career as she won a gold medal in team and mixed doubles at the South Asian Games. She then became a family name in India after she and Gutta won the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medal in front of the home crowd in Delhi. She and Jwata then registered their names in the badminton history books by becoming the first Indian pair to win a medal at the world badminton championships. They both represented India at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She separated from Jwala Gutta now and represented in the women's doubles events with N. Sikki Reddy and in mixed doubles, she recently collaborated with B Sumeeth Reddy. |
