| Abida Parveen was born in 1954 at Mohalla Ali Goharabad in Larkana, Sindh, Pakistan, a place known for its rich Sufi Muslim culture. She was from a long line of mystics and Sufi singers; his father Ustad Ghulam Haider being a prominent Sufi singer who founded his own school of devotional music. Her father introduced Abida to Sufism and music when she was very young. She was naturally inclined to devotional music and started singing when she was only three years old. Recognizing the potential of her granddaughter, her father began to train him. |

| Abida began playing Dargahs and Urs in the early 1970s and began singing for Radio Pakistan, Hyderabad, in 1973.
