| Rakhee was born on the great day of Indian Independence, August 15, 1947 in West Bengal. His father, a jute businessman from Bangladesh, had to move to West Bengal after his partition. Rakhee attended Ranaghat Girls' Local School and completed her studies there. Rakhee was in an arranged marriage with Ajay Biswas, a Bengali filmmaker she divorced after a short while. |

| Rakhee Gulzar made her debut in the Bengali film 'Bandhu Baran' which was a huge success and she was immediately roped by many Bollywood filmmakers. Thus, she made her Bollywood debut with the movie 'Jeevan Mritya' starring the legendary Dharmendra. His twinning with Shashi Kapoor was often the point of discussion at the time. Together they made up to nine films and many of them proved to be blockbuster successes.
