| Raghuraj Pratap is an independent deputy who supports the Samajwadi Party government in the state, and has been a minister twice. In 2013, his appointment as Minister of Prisons in the Akhilesh yadav government shocked many. The politician has numerous criminal cases against him - including charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, corruption and dacoity - and has even been in prison for criminal charges. in 2002 under the POTA Prevention of Terrorism Act when Mayawati was Chief Minister. He was arrested on November 2, 2002, with his father, Uday Pratap Singh, and his cousin, Akshay Pratap Singh, charged with kidnapping and threats. The charges were dropped after SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav took over the government in 2003. |
