| Arvind Kejriwal was born on August 16, 1968 in Bhiwani, Haryana, to a well-educated couple, Gobind Ram Kejriwal and Gita Devi. Arvind Kejriwal has a younger brother and a younger sister. His father, Gobind Ran Kejriwal, was an electrical engineer at the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. Transfers related to his father's work brought him to several different places. Therefore, Arvind Kejriwal had to spend his childhood mainly in cities like Ghaziabad, Hisar and Sonepat. He studied at the campus school in Hisar. Arvind Kejriwal graduated from the Kharagpur Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering in 1989. He also spent some time at the Ramkrishna Mission and at Nehru Yuva Kendra in Kolkata. |

| After completing his degree in mechanical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, he joined Tata Steel. He took a leave of absence from the company to concentrate on the examination of civil services. In 1992, he left his job. The same year, he passed the Civil Services Exam and joined the Indian Revenue Service. In February 2006, he resigned from the position of Co-Commissioner in the Income Tax Department. While working with the income tax department, he helped train the NGO Parivartan in December 1999. |
