V.K. Singh Biography & Biodata

V K Singh was born on May 10, 1950. While his grandfather was a junior officer, his father was a colonel in the Indian Army. He studied at Birla Public School in Pilani. Subsequently, he was admitted to the NDA of the National Defense Academy and graduated from the Defense Staff Staff College. His other academic accomplishments include graduation from the United States Army Infantry School, Pennsylvania Carlisle's United States Army War College, and the Fort Benning Ranger Diploma.

V K Singh began his career as a military officer and became the first commando trained to conduct high altitude and counterinsurgency operations in the Indian Army for promotion to the general rank. He participated in the war between India and Pakistan in 1971 and Operation Pawan. Singh was the 24th leader of the Indian army and the first to drag the Union government to court on his birth number. After retiring as chief of staff, Singh became a member of the BJP. He also actively participated in the anti-corruption campaign led by Anna Hazare at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi.
