| Usha Uthup began singing in a small nightclub in Chennai called Nine Gem, when she was 20 years old, wearing a saree and caliper feet. Her performance was so well received that the discotheque owner asked her to stay for a week. After her first night club concert, she began singing in Kolkata at nightclubs such as "Talk of the Town" and "Trincas". She met her future husband Uthup in Trincas.
