Mohammad Azharuddin Career | ||
Azhar began his international career with flying colors when he marked a century in his debut with England against England in 1984 at Eden Gardens Calcutta, three years after making his first-class debut for Hyderabad. He has continued to score for centuries in the next 2 tests as well and is one of the few cricket players who has the unique distinction of getting a hundred in each of his first three tests. Azhar was announced as a stick genius and this opinion was reinforced when he made his way to an aggressive 120 against England at Lord's in 1990. This was the test where Gooch had hammered Indian bowlers everywhere to raise his 333 and India were facing With the prospect of a follow-up when Azhar came knocking at number 5. Against a quality bowling attack, he raised his hundred and 87 balls and although India lost the match, it would have been much worse if it was not Azhar. Primarily a medium-sized drummer, he was known for his cricket offensive brand regardless of the game situation and his superb grip in the drawstring and outfield. |
