Former Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria Mumbai, now managing director of Maharashtra (Home Guards), and two other senior officials of the force were questioned by the CBI in connection with the murder case Sheena Bora where the agency is on to conclude the investigation.
Besides Maria, who was the police commissioner, the CBI also questioned Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner (Law and Order) and Satya Narayan Choudhary, deputy commissioner of police (Zone-X).
The spotlight fell on Maria and her team after CBI arrested baron Peter Mukherjea media last year. There were allegations that Maria has not probed the corner of the property in the case and not questioned Mukherje
The 24-year-old Sheena was strangled in a car in Mumbai in April 2012 allegedly by Indrani, Khanna and former driver Indrani Shyamvar Rai. Sheena's body was then thrown into a forest in the district of neighboring Raigad. The case came to light last year when Rai was arrested in another case. Rai later turned approver in the murder case.
Maria had reportedly shown a personal interest in the case and had himself interrogated the accused, including Indrani Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna, which is unusual.
Maria was, however, withdrawn its commissioner and promoted to general manager of Home Guards with immediate effect.
The CBI had last week filed its second supplementary charge sheet in the case of a special tribunal, stating the mother and the first Sheena kept Indrani Mukerjea accused her husband Peter Mukerjea updated on the phone of choice of the stain for elimination from the body.
The charge sheet almost 200 pages was filed before the court of special CBI judge S H Mahajan.
