| Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Rao was an Indian National Congress politician in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. He was born on July 4, 1947 at Katuru, Vuyyuru, Krishna dist, Andra Pradesh, India. Ranga had four elder brothers: Vangaveeti Koteswara Rao, Vangaveeti Venkata Narayana Rao, Vangaveeti Sobhana Chalapathi Rao and Vangaveeti Radha Krishna. Ranga was married to 'Rathna Kumari'. Ranga has one 'Vangaveeti Radha Krishna' and one daughter 'Asha'. When Vangaveeti Radha was killed by Communists Vangaveeti Ranga took over the charge of his brother's legacy. |

| Vangaveeti Ranga entered public life after his brother Vangaveeti Radha Krishna was killed. His political career began in 1981 when he ran in the municipal elections and the Congress Party withdrew his official candidate in his favor. His rival in the district, Devineni Rajasekhar, was sponsored by the Telugu Desam Party, which was dominated by the Kamma caste, while Ranga became a leader of the Kapu community. Ranga became a congressman for the Congress Party in 1985; Rajasekhar became a TDP MLA and eventually a minister. Beginning in 1983, both parties were involved in gang warfare, fueled by rivalry between castes; N. T. Rama Rao was at the time Kamma Prime Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The gang war in Vijayawada went back further; Ranga had served a prison sentence for the murder of Rajasekhar's brother, Gandhi. On March 10, 1988, Rajasekhar's brother Murali was killed and Ranga supporters were charged. |
